To enhance the quality of our peer review process, we’re actively exploring ways to provide a more robust, high-quality peer review experience. Beyond our focus on high-quality publications, we are equally committed to supporting the broader scientific community. One of our key initiatives is involving community members in our reviewer board programs, which help advance the field while fostering collaboration and education.
The Early Career Scientist Reviewer Program is a collaboration between our journal Arctic Science and the Association of Polar Early Career Scientists Canada (APECS Canada). APECS is dedicated to supporting early-career scientists working in the polar regions and the broader cryosphere. This partnership reflects our shared commitment to advancing polar research and supporting early-career researchers (ECRs) by promoting collaboration, disseminating research, and enhancing education within the polar research community.
Participants in this program acquire valuable experience and skills in reviewing scientific manuscripts, deepen their understanding of the peer review and publishing processes, and gain access to training resources through webinars and workshops. They also explore how open science initiatives can promote transparency and equity in polar research. By actively engaging in the peer review process, participants play a crucial role in advancing the field.
Collaborating for excellence
The Royal Society of Canada (RSC) Reviewer Board, supported by the RSC in collaboration with our journal FACETS, represents a significant advancement in peer review. This voluntary program assembles experts from across the RSC who are interested in serving as peer reviewers several times a year. Together with FACETS, the RSC is dedicated to fostering a community of skilled reviewers who contribute to rigorous, high-quality research.
Members of the RSC Reviewer Board play a vital role in advancing scientific research through the peer review process, receive distinguished recognition on the FACETS and RSC websites for their contributions, contribute to the growth of open science in Canada, and gain access to training resources and participate in webinars and workshops.
Empowering early-career researchers and professionals
As the emerging generation of knowledge creators and users, the involvement of ECRs in the peer review process is crucial. To support and encourage their participation, we established the Early-Career Reviewer Program in collaboration with the Society of Canadian Aquatic Sciences (SCAS) and partner journals including the Canadian Journal of Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences, Canadian Journal of Zoology, Environmental Reviews, and FACETS.
This program provides a collaborative environment where ECRs and professionals can actively participate in the peer review of scientific manuscripts. Participants in the Early-Career Reviewer Program will enhance their understanding of peer review standards and processes, develop valuable skills in reviewing scientific manuscripts, engage with peers and the publishing community through interactive webinars, discover how open science initiatives can support scholarly integrity, and make meaningful contributions to aquatic science research.
